I see Rehan Ahmed is now having visa problems, returning to India from the UAE. Purely a coincidence, of course, no racism involved.

The situation between India and Pakistan is difficult and the rules around Visa's for people from a Pakistani background seems a little over the top. I suspect it's a two way street and an Indian trying to get into Pakistan would face similar problems.
From what I've read, though that doesn't necessarily mean it was true, in both these cases the rules, though strict are clear and whoever is handling the paperwork for the ECB didn't follow them.

I see Rehan Ahmed is now having visa problems, returning to India from the UAE. Purely a coincidence, of course, no racism involved. I think this case is more stupidity than racism to be fair. He had a single entry visa, and left for a vacation with the rest of the squad. Whoever is managing the tour should have had copies of all visas and been aware of the difference between single and multiple entry rules. I think the Indian authorities, IN THIS CASE, should be commended for finding a resolution and letting him in.

I was very critical on another place of the problems that are involved with Visa's for people (whether cricketers or not) who are Pakistani or of different nationality , who have Pakistani parents
This instance smacks of incompetence but not by the Indians

I'm looking forward to this a lot more than I thought I would. Shame it's on the wrong brand of TV coverage for me but I'll get up early, well early for me, and hopefully listen to David Bumble Lloyd with his sensible, rather than his T20 head on.
If we can make enough runs I reckon we might be able to give this weakened Indian side a run for their money.

We were doing well when I got up but the afternoon session has certainly gone India's way. 185/3 at tea sounds about the kind of score you'd expect in an Indian Test match. A breakthrough, perhaps 3 wickets next session would even things up nicely.

I set my alarm to watch the first session, which was brilliant...until Joe's dropped catch. Of all people! And this was as easy as slip catches get. You just know it was going to be costly.
At lunch, I went back to bed and woke up again at 9 am, in time for the final session. No surprise that no wicket had fallen during the afternoon session. Eventually, Sharma got himself out, which brought in Sarfaraz Khan. If you can, just watch this guy bat! He was lucky to come in just as Wood's fires were spent, but I don't think I have ever seen anyone play spin better.
He played the big shots, which was great. But the real thing was the way he used his feet, not down the pitch, but to access the full depth of the crease, to nurdle the ball into gaps. There was hardly a dot bowled at him. Master class. No reverse sweeps, and I don't think any of the conventional sweeps were premeditated. He just seemed to be ahead of the bowler all the time, absolutely balanced, perfect head position.
Thankfully for England, he was sawn off by an appallingly selfish bit of play by a teammate. He honestly could have got 200. I think he played and missed just once, one from Hartley that spun sharply.

It's not looking too promising at the end of day 1, it's the speed of scoring that's the main worry.
Sarfaraz Khan it seems has had to wait for his chance, despite having a fantastic average in first class cricket.
Can we get them out for 400 or less and then get somewhere close on first innings. I'm not sure we can but am ever hopeful, though far from confident.

5 run start for England, every little helps as they say. Ashwin deserved the penalty and was trying to scuff up the 'danger area' on purpose according to Alistair Cook. 445 is a lot of runs, I saw the Root drop on the first day, but supposedly a couple more drops and two LBW's which should have been reviewed but weren't may have cost us.
England off to their usual flyer but we need a couple of big innings and more than starts from the opening pair.

I waited to the start of the England innings to begin watching. Well worth it. Duckett annoys the hell out of me, with his strutting...but a lot less when he is on my side! I've always known he was a good player, but I didn't know he was this good.
So, 207 for two, and I will be up at 4 am tomorrow. It's still a lot of runs to get, of course.

Fantastic final session, I'm not getting up at 4, mainly because I don't have TNT, but I will be up with the light, about 6.45 now.
Agree about Duckett, he was always difficult to like, even way back when he was at Northants and made our white ball bowlers look silly. Still don't like him playing for Notts but I'm warming to him in an England shirt.
I never thought he could do it in Test cricket though.

Duckett is the new Warner. So many similarities.

I was expecting and hoping for more than 319 by England, thank heaven's for Ben Duckett is all I can say.
So once again England may well be looking at chasing 400 plus on a wicket the experts say will start to break up.
Good luck with that.
I hear Joe Root got out playing another funky shot, he needs some coaching from Kane Williamson I think.

In re the visa sham bles - mark 2 ...
The ECB Operations Department deals with this .... or doesn't as the recent cases proved/ There is no excuse - there is a government page about cricket and visas and there are such things as High Commissions and embassies who might know the local visa constraints.
The operations department is headed by Stuart Hooper, the former Bath player. coach, director of rugby, there must be someone there with some questions to answer? "... Hooper's rocky coaching career at his beloved club is a sad story as he was promoted too quickly, without the CV to take on the top job at a giant of English rugby like Bath." (Somerset Live w/site.) Possibly doesn't have the CV to manage a large operations department either?
The Team Manager - Wayne ...? might want to ask one or two and he might have one or two questions to answer as well.
E*C*B*s - insert own choice of epithet.
