In India they seem to have about 5 awards after a game and they all get a cheque for 1 lakh

England certainly seem to feel more comfortable in Abu Dhabi, they have returned there for a break before the 3rd Test which starts on the 15th of Feb.

For those who are fuming at Ben Stokes and his careless run out in Vizag...
Well, 95 years ago, in Adelaide, Australia were 320 for seven, chasing 349 to win. Bradman had scored 58 when he responded slowly to a call from Oldfield, and was run out by a throw from Hobbs. Australia lost by 12 runs, an the seventh day of the match!
It was a foolish call, writes Monty Noble in his book of the series, but Bradman would have gained his ground had he not been 'on his perch'.
To err is human, even for superhumans.

To some, you could view the Stokes run out on a par with the Bairstow stumped/run out by Carey last summer at Lords in the Ashes.
Whats the difference? In Bairstow's case he was castigated for being careless and not staying in his crease while the ball was not "dead" even though he was not attempting to take a run.
In Stokes case he was careless for ambling a run when if he had run quicker, and within his capability he would have made it home easily.

Since I wrote the above, there's been another, the India U19 captain out exactly the same way as Stokes, oblivious of the danger. These things happen. We just switch off, sometimes. The trick is to switch off when the ball is out of play!

Talking to a family who I have dealt with for best part of 40 years, Indian origins. The two brothers are keen cricket fans and go out to India often. They say there Indian cricketers who play in the IPL, who will never get to play international cricket, but earn £3m to £5m a year in the franchises. It is clear where the game is heading if that is the case.

Yes. True byased.
It's not about the money, money, money
You can't blame players for chasing the money, they only have one career , limited even more if they suffer a serious injury, they often have families to support. Whilst playing for England might one day almost have been viewed as an honour, an end in itself, nowadays it's often a stepping stone to richer earnings away from Test cricket (or rather red-ball cricket). An increasing number of franchises can mean for some players actually playing less cricket , extending their playing careers and earning more money. The Counties are increasingly powerless to retain players for their domestic schedules and Countries too .
Where will it end?

It seems that Virat Kohli will miss the next two tests and may even miss the entire series.
Rahul, Siraj and Jedeja are though expected to be fit and available for selection for the next game in Rajkot.

Dan Lawrence obviously not a golfer. He's opted to return to his franchise duties in the ILT20 during the break between Tests in order to get his Airmiles in.
The article intimates he will be returning to take up his drinks running/reserve batter role with England in time for the Third Test.
The ILT20 is a bit depleted at the moment with Warner, Hope, Pooran etc returning to play in the series in Australia and some Pakistan players leaving to prepare for the PSL.

if Root and Bairstow have gone to Dubai for a round of golf, Lawrences chances of selection will have gone up significantly, so he may be doing more than drinks waiter back in India

Shreyas Iyer has been dropped from the India squad after failing to make enough runs. His 104 in 4 innings is exactly twice as many as Joe Root (52). Of course they have more players to choose from and Joe has earned some time. Next test would be a good time to turn it around.
I read that Bumble has been signed up to join the talksport radio team for the rest of the series. Any new addition can only improve it.

Now Jack Leach has been ruled out for the rest of the tour. Seems to be the knee he hurt whilst fielding. Will they send for anyone else, and if they do who might that be.
Nobody automatically springs to mind unfortunately.

No point. We've still got three contrasting frontline spinners (albeit inexperienced ones) plus Root and Lawrence as needed, plus the option to pick an extra seamer if they want.
I fear Jack may have run his race. He has been an asset, but Hartley could be a bigger one.

England XI to play third Test v India: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Ben Foakes (wk), Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, James Anderson.
It must be a slightly different kind of wickets as England are going in with two seamers as Wood comes in to replace Bashir.
Joe Root can be expecting to do a fair bit of bowling in this one.
Bashir did reasonably well on his debut but he just went for too many runs. One Test wonder, or will he be back, we will have to wait and see.
