I left at 20 for 0 to see our daughter off at Leeds station.
Very generous applause for Matthew Fisher when he came on to bowl. See he took both wickets.
The sun actually came out briefly before tea!
Yorks seem to have declared as tea was finishing…,,so 20 mins became 30, perhaps to shorten their time in the field…..curious
My last look at 2024 was a delivery from Matthew F

Good point Hawke. It cannot habe been any fun for those lads at all. Skittled in their only innings and then belted around for over 700.
Full marks to them.

Still Northants did come away with a draw and which prevented Leicestershire from leap-frogging them in the Div2 table.
I think this is all.part of why Yorkshire batted on and 'settled' on a draw , having achieved their main target of promotion from this game.

And why bowl on a heartbreaker Headingley pitch, when you don't have to? Tough on Northants - really tough, and unfair - and something has to be done about these pitches for next season.
Northampton have a good hand of decent fast-medium hit-the-pitch bowlers. I noted that even Fisher couldn't get it bail high on the 3rd morning. Fortunately we had them six down overnight, and he was bowling at, mostly, tailenders. There was just a bit with the new ball for Sanderson & Co, then nowt.
I thought their rookie, on-loan spinner, Fateh Singh, was excellent. Lovely variations and flight, and whether he spins it, who can tell? But if I was them, I'd sign him. I would also go back to the pitches that produced Swann, Brown and Panesar, in their day.

Northants came in for a bit of stick from the home supporters I read for releasing spin bowler Alex Russel, who hasn't been given many opportunities, in the same week that they took Fateh Singh on a one match loan from Notts.
Whether they have seen enough to sign him, or if they don't whether he is released by Notts over the next few weeks will be interesting. He is a former England U-19's player, which might not mean a lot when it comes to bowlers.
