Yes today went as well as we could have reasonably hoped.

Congratulations to Ben Coad on passing 300 career FC wickets yesterday. He has 50 odd so far this term and with power to add and I know it's a team game but his wickets really have made all the difference this season.
He deserves his place in the BBC team of the season and our other candidate, Adam Lyth, didn't miss out by much.
For the rest of this game, as the day progresses I hope we can work ourselves into a position to go for the win and give those attending a little bit of entertainment.
This season deserves to finish on a high.

Very rare penalty runs. The most likely cause is the ball hitting a helmet that is not being used and has been placed on the ground behind the keeper. 5 penalty runs for that.
Laws 28, 42 and 43 have several instances where penalty runs can be awarded such as threatening the umpire, abusing the equipment.
These are so rare I wouldn't lose sleep over them.

There are also some limited circumstances that arise from the playing conditions of the ECB as opposed to the Laws of the Game, which I think are the ones that are referenced here.

Another 100 for Adam Lyth and he and James Wharton have put Yorkshire in complete control of this game.
They finally got on the pitch at Hove and Middlesex lost the toss and were put in to bat by Sussex. Middlesex are going at 6 an over in their rush to get on with things, 191/6 at the moment relying a lot on Robson, who appears to be quickly running out of partners.

I'd say there will be dancing on the streets of Methley tonight...

Well Im late to the promotion party and just missed Wharton’s 200 come up. But in between delays trying to find the ball in an empty Western Terrace and various fielding changes we are watching a Wharton-Bairstow T20 festival. Think I’ve just seen 39 off 10 deliveries. Hope they don’t go off for bad light

Not sure what Northamptonshire have done to deserve this but Yorkshire are batting on, I presume to provide some entertainment for the loyal supporters and no doubt some occasional ones who have come along for the final day of the season.
I'd like to see them go for the win, but I'd probably be fine with what they are doing if I was in attendance.

Ten degrees. Still. Maybe 400 watching outside and maybe a couple of hundred in the Long Room. Floodlights on fairly strong. I’ve seen Wharton’s 250! That was a quick 50.

Common sense says entertain the crowd now and have maybe 60-65 overs at Northants this afternoon - that way you're not over bowling the seamers but have sufficient time to capitalise on a demoralised opposition who checked out for the season a day or so ago.

I’m now sat near the players’ balcony. The umpires came out and checked the light. Some chuntering from one or two spectators to them as they came off. Think YJB on the balcony asked the specs to stop giving the umps a hard time. May have read that wrong but could have been that.

Assuming that they are all going to have a bat ... can we look forward to Coad and Fisher letting fly with 10 men round the bat?

In the end I am glad I didn't go today, though only because I overslept a little. I got as far as putting my socks on - no small operation these days - and making up a flask for the day, but in the end I was put off by a miserable-looking day, and the thought of Harry and Adil on TV. as well as dynamic Doidge. Not ironic, he's very good.
So there we have it. Six months of cold and darkness and some TV cricket, and we're off again, this time at the top table. We're in it, and we can win it.
And now I'm going to watch Leicester v Bath. Come on Bath!
