Here at Yorkshire of course we already know that coach Otis Gibson is Leaving, as is one of the assistant coaches Ali Maiden, we expect to hear very soon who the new coach will be. It's not like we don't have a clue but we have to wait until it's official.
Player wise Dom Leech is leaving and joining Northants, that's official.
Matthew Fisher is leaving and is believed to be joining Surrey, not yet official.
Whether Shan Masood stays or goes still needs to be sorted out.
Mickey Edwards! I'd be amazed if he stays but funnier things have happened.
I don't think we have any of the younger players on the verge of being released, but we will have to see.

Elsewhere the merry go round is cranking into life.
At Derbyshire they have all-rounder Martin Anderson joining from Middlesex, they lose Sam Connors to Durham.
At Durham they have Emilio Gay from Northants, Sam Connors from Derbyshire and Will Rhodes from Warwickshire. Michael Jones is moving the other way back to Lancashire.
Kent are losing head coach Matt Walker. Warwickshire wicketkeeper/batter Chris Benjamin is joining.
At Warwickshire ex Yorkshire player Will Rhodes is leaving to join Durham, he wants to play T20 reportedly. They are also losing Chris Benjamin who is moving to Kent, he wants to play all formats. Inbound they have Ethan Bamber from Middlesex.
Worcestershire have lost Joe Leach to retirement. Ben Allison the Essex all-rounder is due to join them for 2025.

Lancashire it seems are in the market for some 'experience' to help get them back into Division 1 next season. You can't win anything with kids seems to be the message from their coach Dale Benkenstein.
It's true their squad, taking out the players who don't want to play CC cricket, is mighty thin. They did though have a number of players with more experience than 16 year old Rocky Flintoff who they played in the last 4 CC games, to little effect.
Perhaps the coach was star struck by the name, or was it the club was more interested in the publicity than the cricket.

I'm sorry but it's a dirty trick of Lancashire playing for relegation to avoid having to play Yorkshire in a Roses Championship game in 2025 though I think Yorkshire's 'kids' would give theirs a run for their money. I can't remember who at Lancashire ( Chair, Coach or CEO ) was bemoaning the fact that the problem for their Championship efforts is that the player's agents are trying to persuade them to play in more franchises , presumably so that the players earn more (and so do the agents). Apparently it's hard to get players earning £80-90,000 pa making uo the |Lancashire team. Where is the loyalty from the players themselves? I haven't analysed where the county players come from but I believe a high proportion have been 'bought in' and certainly many more than for the White Rose County loyal players. ( mind you things are changing and we might never see again 11 Yorkshire born and bred players making up the team . If people like Dom Bess are good enough to turn out for us then they are Yorkshire enough for me and he's certainly made of the 'right stuff')

The Lancashire whinge has the smell of 'not our fault' about it.
I will miss the Roses .. but I would rather we did well in Division 1 than played for bragging rights. I think we might argue that we have those because we were promoted.

Oh Lanky Lanky!! I thought Oh Jimmy Jimmy would re-appear at the end but England must have called in his role as mentor Lancs signed Buttler and Salt but of course the CC is off limits for them. The overseas signings did not really work whilst Wells and Jennings were below their best. Of course Livingstone is also off limits whilst Mahmood’s re-availability was haphazard. They miss Croft and Vilas. I think the most frustrating loss for them was Luke Wood who, I think after injury, went off in Sept to a desert for a T10 comp. I mean can you believe it. A season in Div 2 might be what their younger players need. It has arguably helped ours. And they do have lots of potentially good young players.

Coincidentally when Oh Lanky Lanky won their first outright CC title in 80 odd years, in 2011, our noble shire was relegated Then we were Champions in 2015, Lancs were relegated. Ups and downs. Ups and downs.

Just conformation that Mickey Edwards is heading back to Australia and has called time on professional cricket.
We won't miss his cricket, but he did seem to be quite an affable chap and I wish him well for the next chapter of his life.

Connor McKerr, briefly of this parish, is leaving Surrey alongside batter Ben Geddes. No news of any counties willing to take them on.
McKerr has spent 3 different loan spells at Derbyshire plus 2 at Kent as well as the loan spell with us. He came to cover T20, though he did play one CC game and did reasonably well.
I think he'd be a better fit for Kent perhaps but we are a bowler or two short!

Ben Geddes is a rare talent. Not that we need another batsman. We can't even find a game for the ones we've got. I wonder if Will Luxton thinks there's 'too much cricket'? Or Harry Duke, Yash Vagadia, Noah Kelly.....
I am really looking forward to seeing young Wade in 2025, too. We could have used McKerr, though, He and Fernando were part of the 2024 process of improvement.
Otherwise 10 Yorkies + Bess will do fine. Devon too is a proper place, with real people; the polar opposite of Kent, home of the great British whinge.

McKerr has indeed signed for Notts, joining their host of others conspicuously not from Nottingham. Whilst we need reinforcements to our seam bowling ranks, I'm not too disappointed by this, it would have felt like a stop gap solution; when we thought we were stuck with another season of Division 2 cricket, maybe he was a decent bet but for the top division I think we need to look elsewhere. Some of it, I think, will have to be by putting faith in Cliff and Wade (who, if he is hitting 90mph now, needs looking after) whilst we should also look to use our two overseas slots wisely. That may mean a Fernando or two, or a scout around the worlds hotspots for our new coach, whoever they may be.
In other news, Geddes - who I agree looked far too good for Surrey to release at 23 - has left because he had another county lined up. The rumour I heard was Hampshire.

Dont you mean Geddes has signed for Delhi Capitals.....
Agree McKerr is not one for us for next season. I would like to think a good quality overseas player is a better option, preferably left armer.
Yes, McKerr has been signed by Notts to replace Pennington and Tongue (who signed from Worcts but have been pretty much injured all this season) who were signed to replace the retiring Broad (who had joined from Leicestershire of course).....

Notts have also lost Luke Fletcher, though he didn't feature much last season, and of course Tom Loten didn't make the grade.
They certainly plough through more than their fare share of players. Great excitement there I believe they think they have found a decent player actually born in the County.
Freddie McCann, one to watch possibly though the evidence is pretty thin at this stage in his career.
