Never been a fan of the tube even when I was much younger and worked in London. I appreciate it taking so many people off the roads but it's not for me.
If you're able on foot is the best way to get about London, jumping on a bus occasionally as convenient, there's usually something going on to get your interest, even if it's only a mild disagreement between drivers and cyclists.

Yes, walking and the occasional bus is a nice way to get about in London whilst admiring the architecture etc. The tube very useful if speed is of the essence. Apart from the Northern Line, which could do with a bit of updating, I find all the other lines smart and tidy. A bit stuffy on hot days, but otherwise a great piece of infrastructure. What did Samuel Johnson say, tired of the London Underground, tired of life ? ( ok, not quite)

I think some years ago. after a concert at The Royal Albert Hall, Paul Weller, lead singer of The Jam was asked "how he was getting home?"
His reply , (that's right),
" Going Underground"

but did you know that he stopped for a couple of pints on his way home so he was still "down in the tube station at midnight"
