Very very very well done Adam Lyth. Who was the northerner on the Northants You Tube feed? Was it David Ripley?

David Ripley it was, he hasn't lost any of the 'Leeds' in his voice after all those years at Northants.
I like a more balanced view so I synced it with the BBC commentary, Andrew Radd, the Northants man, has a much more mellow voice and thoughtful manner than whoever is leading on the live stream.

Steady progress for Northants, currently 197/7. It doesn't look like we will have to make a decision on the follow-on but if we can keep them under 240 that will be a job well done.
Monday's weather forecast I believe has improved but it's Sunday that may well suck the life out of our chances.

I didn't see the captain leave the field for the final 90 minutes,to be substituted by the coach with a donkey.
With the extra runs Northants then scored, the time and overs they used up, the weather forecast for Sunday and the momentum Northants now have, I see the best we'll get out of the game might be a draw, possibly another defeat 🥕
Hope I'm wrong, it won't be the first time
Not exactly snatching a defeat from the jaws of victory .It's not all over yet........

Yes, not a great end to the day but these things happen, indeed Thommo did it to them in the morning session.
It's fine sending in a night watchman with only one over to go but Leech was more of a sacrificial lamb. It also puts Finlay Bean under a lot of pressure whenever he comes to bat.
Depends on the weather today of course where this game goes but all results are still possible.
We need a good confident start or it could turn very nasty if their bowlers get on top.

Hope Bess, Moriarty and Chohan have a greater role in white ball cricket. Odd not to play one spinner at Northampton. Bess could also add to the batting as has been said. It currently seems difficult to keep 3 spinners on the books in first team employment.

I worry that team selection is being affected by having both Bess and Moriarty available. The kind of mindset that says 'if conditions don't justify picking two spinners we won't pick any in order not to upset the other one'.
That's very simplistic of course and we can't ever know how well those who aren't picked would have batted or bowled.
Second innings to come and hopefully the players who were picked ahead of Bess, particularly Luxton, Leech, Revis and Thompson can justify the selection.
To a certain extent with that bat in the case of Thompson and the ball from Revis, those two already have.

For a variety of reasons (Mrs DL's birthday and children/grandchildren invasion amongst then) I saw no livestream yesterday - had to make do with score card peeps on the phone.
It made very peculiar watching ...... I assume Leech did not bowl as well as he did last time ... The Man with the Golden Arms slipped out one of their form players.
Proctor is described on ESPN as 'a workmanlike left-handed batsman'. I am pleased that Fernando picked up the tail - hope that is a sign of something positive. at least for this match and 2 more.
I presume the idea of sending Leech out to face the final over of the day was to protect bean and we start our innings again with Lyth and Bean. Hmm!

Raining at Wantage Road and the covers are on. The forecast has turned poor again for the remaining 2 days and the game might well be over as a contest already.

They did get started with just a little delay and as sure as night follows day Finlay Bean fell cheaply.

Well that little experiment worked out really well OG/SM - who ever wants to own up to it.
They are playing @ 11.30 am ...... and we are 10 for 2 off 4 overs .... all 9 to Adam Lyth.

43/2 and a lead of 104 with 8 wickets in hand isn't the worst position in the world and I would say the initial crisis has been averted.
No idea how much play we may or may not get today but we are a long way from a position, either in the game or in terms of team confidence, to push on and set them a total we feel we could defend.

I have returned home after watching 2 days of the game at Northampton. Day 1: I set off late and was in the (relatively) new motorway services at Rugby ('scrum on in' - I kid you not - and a lovely model sculpture of a rugby player making a tackle just outside the main door), when Lyth got his 100. As Yorkshire were relatively comfortable at around 200 for one, I took my time and went straight to my accommodation without bothering attending the cricket on day 1.
Day 2, I was present from 10.30 and enjoyed a really good day's cricket. An excellent pitch, actually better than the one at Hove because the batsman had a chance of survival with good technique rather than luck. Jordan Thompson smashed their bowling to all parts to get us beyond 360, but then our bowling rather let us down, and our catching was fallible. Root's departure has led to a game of musical chairs at first slip. Hill is the first choice, but he can't stand there when he's bowling. I think they were right to stick with the tried and tested Lyth and Bean at slips 2 and 3.
After lunch we bowled professionally, led by our new Sri Lankan Fernando, who has the most beautiful smooth run up and action. He is not quick, but he does look a good bowler. By the way, the left hander I saw batting in the nets at Hove was not Fernando. That guy was left-handed and looked as though he could bat; Fernando bats right handed and looks like a born 11.
He received good support, initially from Revis, who tormented their Indian batsman Nair, then from Hill. Leech was better than his figures suggest, and Thompson also put in a tidy spell, second time round. Top marks to Procter, who batted serenely through it all, in no bother whatsoever.
Unfortunately, our bowling wheels fell off after tea. We were discussing the pros and cons of enforcing the follow-on; then we were wondering whether we would have any lead at all. We were woeful, and not only did Procter smash us, but so did their number 11.
So to day 3. Dodgy forecast, but they were due to start on time until a late shower put it back 15 minutes. Bean continues to struggle. They were missing Jack White who, presumably, injured himself belting our bowlers yesterday, but Justin Broad was impressive and, in my opinion, underbowled. Sanderson may be the best player we let go (perhaps Rhodes or Hannon-Dalby) and it took some good batting by Lyth and Masood to withstand him.
Really good cricket today, Masood especially. In Kaul, Northants may have the worst overseas bowler of all time, though he did pick up a couple of wickets, as well as deservedly going for 6 per over. Masood belted him gleefully. Lyth looked horrified to be given out - I've not watched the video yet - but Wharton ground out some runs, as ever without quite looking a good player. A bit like Jack Leaning? Just a thought. George Hill looks more out of nick and confidence even than Fin Bean.
Will Luxton had time to play and miss a bit, then unfurl one gorgeous drive, before the rain came. I judged this to be terminal and left immediately. I was right. The question is: have we the balls to set up a proper declaration tomorrow? Bat an hour or so, and leave them 280 off 75 overs?
I fear we know the answer. Cricket has lost its balls, probably because it has lost its bowlers. We're more likely to set them 360 off 60.

Thanks Dave. Like the phrase’Cricket has lost its balls probably because it has lost its bowlers’.
How do you rate Hove and Northampton as venues?
And could you estimate the size of the crowds?

Thank you DM - that report fills in the gaps caused by our celebrating this weekend.
I am hopeful that there will be play today - the weather forecast suggests one of those days where you are OK unless you are unlucky and a load of wet stuff gets tipped over you.
BTW - is the statuesque rugby player tackling below chest height ... just a thought!
So ... what is there left in this match for each side? It looks like the difference between 8 and 16.
Northants banger batsmen will relish a chase - Vasconcelos, Nair, Gay and possibly Proctor.
Our bowling ..... perhaps less so? Two of the 5 seamers have to get into their top 5 and then we might get the rest relatively cheaply.
Who needs the points as we move towards then end of the first half of the Champo? Simples ... we do.
Derby Gloucs Glam Leics Sussex Middx these are nailed on draws draws.
So 22 points (16 + 6 bp) would lift us in to 3rd or 4th place depending on others.
We have to go for it or we can say cheerio to promotion now. There are 5 good/decent wickets left - perhaps the experiment with opening will pay off - we will have batsmen there at the end as opposed to tail-enders?
BTW The Northants bowler Kaul looks a bit gobby too. He and the entire slip cordon did a dance/jig/kneel/squeal appeal for lbw against Masood. Ball looked to have pitched about 3 inches outside leg and was possibly a bit high.
India versus Pakistan .. he ended up about a yard from Masood. Next ball he whipped one past the outside edge - repeat of running up the wicket into Masood's face.
I think there may have been more words and Lyth went haring up towards the other end .. and then the damn livestream went into dithers and that bit I cannot recover. Grr! Technology!
