Division 1.
Essex v Lancashire at Chelmsford Hampshire v Warwickshire at Southampton Kent v Surrey at Canterbury Somerset v Notts at Taunton Worcestershire v Durham at Kidderminster
Division 2.
Derbyshire v Leicestershire at Derby Northants v Glamorgan at Northampton Sussex v Gloucestershire at Hove.
Weather not as good as it was looking, even at Lords, but no danger of any total washouts.

some interesting match ups.
Lyon v Harmer stands out - will Essex prepare a spin friendly track to suit Harmer, but also Lyon and will Tom Hartley get a game as well?
Black armbands at Canterbury to remember Deadly Derek - are there any specific plans in store - will Knotty be invited and any others from the great Kent team of the 70s and 80s?
How will the predominantly home grown Somerset team fare against the cheque book marquee signings of Notts?

There's a story in every game as far as I'm concerned. In division 2 it's all about winning our game of course but also keeping the other teams at arms length.
In Division 1 I want one of the teams to successfully challenge Surrey for the title this season. It's a bit early to see who that team might be as none of them look particularly strong to me this season. Anyone will do even Lancashire, though Essex may be the better equipped.

If pushed I would want Somerset to win div 1. Sorry but I cannot get my head around wanting Lancashire to ever win anything, ditto Surrey and then there is a growing dislike of Essex as they appear to have sailed under the ECB radar for similar failings to YCCC that we were heavily (and rightly) punished for.

A minutes silence for Deadly Derek at Canterbury has been scheduled for 1200 due to the delayed start. A couple of delayed starts around the country hopefully just shower activity.

If there are showers at Canterbury they should leave the covers off in tribute to Derek Underwood and then get Jack Leaning to exploit a sticky dog of a track in his honour

Good day for Essex yesterday, they put Lancashire in to bat in testing conditions and now looks in position to take advantage. A bit of a carbon copy of what is happening to us at Lords. Lanc 146 all out Essex 68/1.
Warwickshire 340/4 having won the toss continue to score big runs, especially Alex Davies 149. Always reminds me of Ben Duckett but not quite so pleasant. Totally unfair as he may well be a very nice chap. Will Rhodes chipped in with 81 runs.
Notts 193 all out, continue to struggle, they elected to bat which makes it worse. Somerset 116-1 have the early advantage.
Durham 244 all out also elected to bat and have Worcestershire at 78/4. Durham marginally the happier.
Lot of rain in Kent so not much progress with Kent on 111/3 having been put in to bat by Surrey.
In Division 2, Hove was the place that got the most cricket in losing only 6 overs in the day. Sussex won the toss and Glos reached 319-8, Ollie Robinson playing for Sussex hasn't taken any wickets.
Only 46 overs possible at Derby where Leicestershire are 168/2 having been put in to bat.
At Northampton the home team decided to field and have Glamorgan at 203/7 in 56 overs, 3 wickets for Ben Sanderson.

Essex, Surrey, Somerset and Durham seem to have the better of their matches after the second day in division 1.
The flat pitch at Southampton makes it hard to see any advantage for either team.
Essex 10/1 lead Lancashire by 221 runs with 9 wickets left in their 2nd innings. Surrey 185/1 are only 59 runs behind Kent on first innings. Notts 38/1 in their 2nd innings are still 223 runs behind Somerset. Durham 319/5 lead Worcestershire by 379 runs with 5 wickets left. Hants 140/1 are still 315 runs behind Warwickshire on first innings.
In Division 2 Derbyshire 54/4 are 520 runs behind Leicestershire's 574-7 dec. Ben Mike is having a good game. Sussex 267/5 are still 150 runs behind Glos on first innings. Northants 314/2 lead Glamorgan by 43 runs with 8 wickets remaining on first innings.

After wins for Essex and Durham in division 1 and of course Middlesex in division 2 the weather may put paid to many more positive results.
Canterbury looks to be the exception where Kent 120/5 still need 179 to make Surrey bat again. I'd like to think Evison and Compton could keep them out, but I can't really see it happening, not much to follow when these two go.
Notts 418/2 with a record partnership between Joe Clarke 209 and Will Young 156 lead Somerset by 157. They may try to embarrass Somerset with a declaration but I think a draw is very likely.
Warwickshire 46/0 lead Hants by 136, looks very difficult to take wickets at Southampton.
In Division 2 Derbyshire 224/6 after being made to follow-on are still 183 runs behind Leicestershire. Weather may save them.
At Hove, Gloucestershire have collapsed to 81/6 in their 2nd innings, just 19 runs ahead and the game would appear to be Sussex's for the taking.
At Northampton Glamorgan 104/3 still need 230 runs to make Northants bat again.

Derbyshire have indeed been saved by the rain and poor old Leicestershire, having dominated the game, have had to walk away with a draw.
Glamorgan v Northants looks to be heading the same way with time ebbing away.
I'm watching the game at Hove, enjoying Gloucestershire efforts to keep Sussex out, though Hammond has just been given out and with the new ball due they might not manage it, they've just lost another and with a lead of just over a hundred that might be curtains. 6 lbw's out of 8 dismissals so far. Not sure if Robinson is allowed to bowl any more overs.
