Only two nicknames and five others to go, impressive stuff. Feel free to submit as many as you like from now on.

Shack was Denis Amiss and Tangles was Max Walker, I think, the medium pacer who came on after Lillee and Thomson.
The other group is much harder. 4 would be a Jamaican, possibly, or a Trinidadian, who might have played in a wc qualifier. Michael Holding? Brian Lara? 3 stab in the dark - Brendan McCullum?
On reflection, Amiss was Sack, not Shack.

8. Leslie George Hylton, Jamaican cricketer who played 6 Test for the West Indies. He took 13 wickets in his first Test against England in 1935.
He shot his wife in what his defence said was a jealous rage but the prosecution described as pre meditated murder after he found out she was having an affair. This took place in 1954, he was found guilty and hanged in 1955 in Jamaica.
Shack couldn't be as simple as Derek Shackleton could it!
3. I think is Clyde Walcott.

Tangles is correct, Max Walker, because he was all arms and legs in his bowling action. Leslie Hylton correct. Apparently he also claimed he was trying to shoot himself, but missed! The fact there were seven bullets found in his wife's body also made this an unlikely claim. Shack is neither Amiss or Shackleton, but he is English, well sort of. number 4 is a West Indian, but not Holding or Lara, but on the right lines number 3 is also a West Indian

The well sort of led me to Andy Caddick, I always had him down as Wingnut but some have more than one. Andrew Strauss seems to have a dozen.

9. Is Arthur Conan Doyle. Good cricketer, I think he once got WG Grace out, whether he walked or not I'm not sure.
The event mentioned happened when the ball struck him and somehow managed to ignite a box of matches in his pocket.
The anecdote suggests someone noticed the smoke, though I'd have thought he might have felt the heat first.

Viv Richards correct for the world cup question. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the man set on fire, elementary really. (He is also listed as having taken just one first class wicket, that of WG Grace, as indicated by Newby)
The remaining one, who had an unfortunate birthday, played county cricket in the 1970s, very successfully, and also appeared in a world cup final.

Go on then. Keith Boyce. As you say very successful in the 1970's for Essex.
The nickname: In cricketing circuits, he was called ‘Stingray.’
Troubled personal life: His marriage broke and what did not help was his alcohol consumption. His financial condition deteriorated and his home was blown away in a hurricane.
Passing away on his birthday: Boyce suffered from chronic cirrhosis of liver and in 1996, he collapsed while sitting in a chair at a pharmacist’s. That day was October 11, his 53rd birthday. He became the only international cricketer to have died on his birthday.
