Just in case anyone's still interested. Perhaps we've given up any hope of World domination, just being the best team in Europe is all that's on offer.
Champions trophy qualification on the line, doesn't seem much now but it might in two years time, especially if we aren't in it.
Not enough players to have wholesale change so it's the same players reheated largely.
I hope they put the younger squad members in, I'm sure Brook will play, but there may be some in the dressing room who still think only they can change things round, despite the overwhelming contrary evidence.
Here goes for a stab at how their mind is working.
Bairstow, Buttler, Malan, Root, Stokes, Brook, Woakes, Willey, Rashid, Atkinson, Wood. A bit of bowling for Root if necessary.
They might bring in Carse and Curran, and Buttler may switch to open the batting, but I'm not holding my breath.

Decent start by England but they need to push on towards 350 I think looking at this pitch.
Bairstow and Root well out of sorts and Malan unfortunate. The Brook dismissal wasn't in the script but the bounce caught him out.
Buttler should have taken my advice and opened the batting, he can't do worse.

Wooden Spoon game in Pune, and England are at it again. Malan looked good, and played a major innings again, but ran himself out. Bairstow, Root, Brook, Buttler all out weakly. No confidence, no leadership, no enjoyment.
At 180 for 5 (31) we might have enough against these opponents...or not. It really is time for a refresh, a clear out of management and of senior players tainted by failure.

Run rate dropping like a stone as these two can't decide whether to stick or twist. Dreadful.

Have not listened to this game, I'm too busy arranging a 'whip round' to see if we can buy Butler a run.
I'm not sure but think his average for this World Cup is in single figures low single figures.
Thank goodness for Malan in this game the final score should be something approaching 300, Stokes and Wokes have done comparatively well with the bat, we need more players rhyming with oaks.

Buttler Brook Root and Ali keep forgetting its 50 overs not 20 and playing big shots too soon in their innings before they have got in and adjusted to the bowlers and the surface. But thats what happens when your lead up to the tournament is more 20 over stuff.
So when they all come in around 12-15 overs they think they only have 5-6 overs left instead of 35 and they dont know how to play.
Stokes is the exception here once again. But then he knows how to pace a knock in all formats

You need a bit of luck and Stokes took his and rode through the other end. You can only play what's in front of you of course and the Dutch gave us an easy ride early doors and and in the last 10 overs.
It should be more than enough and I think our bowling has been better than it has been painted, but you never know on a flat pitch.

Not quite that bad, 13.87 but easily the worst of our top 6.

Comprehensive, though a little patchy win by England in the end. This batting first lark is often a good idea.
Last round of games starting tomorrow with New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan looking to fill the one top 4 place available.
New Zealand get their chance to stake a claim tomorrow when they play Sri Lanka.
The win today pushed England up to seventh and likely to qualify for the Champions trophy in 2025, even if they don't beat Pakistan.
