If the County Championship had finished after the last round of games then we would have missed promotion by a single point, heaven forbid that's how it does end up, but it's not inconceivable so bear with me.
Of course we'd all be pretty gutted to have missed out, but ultimately could it make next season more enjoyable for spectators.
As it stands Division 2 next season would consist of: Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Glamorgan, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Northants and Yorkshire.
Of course Lancashire are only 10 points adrift of Notts and might well escape relegation. They do look pretty lightweight though and travel to Durham and Worcester as well as facing Somerset at Old Trafford in the last 3 rounds.
We all like a roses clash of course so that would be one bonus, not to mention 4 days in Chesterfield.
We would have a new coach of course and a year to bed in and improve our young squad without the pressure of having to face the Surrey's and Somerset's of this world would surely be advantageous.
It might not happen and I still see the 2nd promotion spot as very much ours, but just in case I'm softening us all up.

MMh. Yes. Very good points newey I'm not a Lancashire supporter though I follow some of their games and they do seem a little lightweight, struggling for victories and points . I do miss playing them in the Roses fixture. However if it has to be then it has to be . I could live with Yorkshire being promoted and Lancashire being relegated.
I thought Lanky might have sent out an SOS to Anderson by now , perhaps they have and he fancies a lie-in.

Yorkshire up, Lancashire down - the dream result, for me...especially the promotion part, which would give us (potentially) trips to favourite venues like Taunton, Chelmsford, Worcester and, of course, Hove.

yes i can miss Roses games if its due to us being in a division above them.
Agree re Lancashire form at moment. Picking Rocky Flintoff aged 16 is either great confidence in the lad and yes he is talented, or a sign they are well short of players

Perfect storm of problems for Lancashire with some usually reliable players not performing, Bailey, Wells, Williams. Saqib Mahmood looks to be T20 only now as does Luke Wood and no Anderson of course.
The young batters Hurst and Bell talented but unreliable, and their overseas signings have mostly been duds, far too reliant on Keaton Jennings.
They have a T20 quarter-final coming up and it looks very much like that's their priority for this season.
