1st point of the season to Notts who have Essex at 174/4. Otherwise not many wickets on offer at the 5 games that have actually started.

Glamorgan 370/3 after 96 overs after being put in by Middlesex.
186 not out for Sam Northeast, Kashif Ali 110 for Worcestershire at Edgbaston is the other first day centurion.

Is that the (Sam) Northeast who performed so well for Yorkshire that we named a stand after him?
My favourite stand NE Upper

335 not out for Sam Northeast in Glamorgan's 620/3 dec. It's not his highest score by a long way but it's a good start to his season and his captaincy for Glamorgan. Perhaps captaincy suits him, time will tell.
Near neighbours Derbyshire and Durham both face a second blank day, Lancashire have finally got some play at Old Trafford. I'm cheering them on, indeed I'm cheering on all the Divisions 1 teams when they face Surrey. I don't know why it is, I'm not proud of it, but I don't want them to get 3 Championships on the bounce.

Yes looks like old Traffabad with 9 Lanky wickets falling to spin and then Lancashire opening the bowling with Lyon and Hartley. If they were playing anybody else but Surrey I'd be happy to see them get bitten by said sticky dog.

Durham have to wait another day at least before beginning life in Division 1. Big shame for them, perhaps foreseeable in hindsight and, like Worcestershire, they might be better with a couple of away games to start the season.
Elsewhere Feroze Khushi, the Essex opener has had his bat taken away by the umpires as being oversize, they might be looking at a points deduction.

Well done Lancs for producing a spinners' pitch first up. Four wickets for Dan Lawrence (ex-Essex), and five for Cameron Steele's leggies. Two International spinners playing for Lanky, so anything can happen.
If the past is a guide, the ECB will not have it. Heaven forbid that anyone should try to make County cricket interesting, when all efforts are being made to prove it as boring and irrelevant as Graves says it is.

2nd 100 in the match for Kashif Ali, product of the South East Asian Academy, playing for Worcestershire against Warwickshire.
He's 26 and has been around the counties, Kent, Northants, Notts, Leicestershire, MCC and Bedfordshire and finally looks to have made the grade. Good luck to him.
Derby called off for the day once again.

Indeed the pitch at OT may make for vvv interesting cricket unlike the scores at Lord’s. The Trent Bridge track seems to helping make a good match with all out scores around the 300 mark which in 4 Day cricket seems right.

Despite Glamorgan scoring 620/3 dec, Middlesex look likely to get very close to that, currently 460/5. So on a flat pitch they have cancelled each other out and a win for either looks impossible.
Northants pretty slow 371 all out looks like being overtaken by Sussex 351/6 currently, in slightly quicker time. Difficult to see a result there either.
Poor old Derbyshire and Gloucestershire, if they do get on the pitch tomorrow just have a few bonus points to play for.
So, nobody in Division 2 is getting the season off to a flyer, and after the first round we will all be within a few points of each other.
In fact if we got some play and managed to get to 400 in reasonably quick time we might well be top.

Derbyshire v Gloucestershire abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Notts v Essex probably the only 'live' game with a positive result possible going into the final day.

Notts subsiding is probably an understatement, 59/8 chasing 300+ they might be praying for rain.
Sussex have a small chance of a victory having declared 100+ ahead of Northants who are 36/2 in their second innings, still 71 behind.
Durham v Hants joined Derby v Glos in being abandoned without a ball being bowled. Plug just been pulled at Old Trafford also.

having been promoted from Little Chef to Big Chef, Sam Cook is having a great day in the kitchen and has taken 5-9 yet rarely troubles the England selectors as i suspect like Ben Coad, he is viewed as not being able to bowl at a fast enough speed of over 85mph to trouble top class players at international level.

Notts have been completely cooked now with some help from the kitchen porter.
